Thirty-something Annie (Kristen Wiig) is in an insecure relationship with her smarmy lover Ted (Jon Hamm) – he just wants a no-strings female friend with extra benefits, she wants more. She has hit a rough patch after her baking business went bust, using up all her savings. So she is delighted to have something to distract her when her best friend Lillian (Maya Rudolph) asks her to be her Maid of Honour. All goes well until the engagement party, where Annie finds herself competing with wealthy, beautiful, multi-lingual, well-connected subordinate-bridesmaid Helen (Rose Byrne) to make the best speech. Soon the pair of them are joined by goody-two-shoes Becca (Ellie Kemper), ballsy blonde Rita (Wendi McLendon-Covey), and Megan (Melissa McCarthy), an outsize military operative who wants a Fight Club-themed bridal shower. Chaos follows: a dress fitting they attend turns horribly messy after they contract food poisoning; a plane trip they take to Vegas turns into a drunken melée. Annie, way out of her depth but determined to succeed, leads this hilarious hodgepodge of bridesmaids on a wild ride down the road to the big event.
