We at Rockbourne film night put in a great deal of thought into bringing you the best of World Cinema, which includes, from time to time, some unusual and unique movies. We always aim to entertain, and this film, although perhaps strange, is a joy from beginning to end. We are sure that you won’t have seen anything quite like it before. Idiosyncratic film maker Wes Anderson has assembled a fantastic cast from three continents and I think that it is worth naming them all. Ralph Fiennes, F. Murray Abraham, Mathieu Amalric, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, Harvie Keitel, Jude Law, Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Saoirse Ronan, Jason Schwartzman, Tilda Swinton, Léa Seydoux Tom Wilkinson. All of whom are brilliant and very funny. The film recounts the adventures of Gustave H, a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars, and Zero Moustafa, the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend. The story involves the theft and recovery of a priceless Renaissance painting and the battle for an enormous family fortune – all against the backdrop of a suddenly and dramatically changing Continent. It is (loosely) based on a story by Stefan Zweig. Come to the village hall and lose yourself in the joyous madness of The Grand Budapest Hotel.
