It’s not often that Rockbourne film nights offer a film that won 5 Oscars and no less than 107 other major awards, including the BAFTA for best film and the Cannes Palm D’Or.
This is what those hard boiled film critics said about ‘The Artist’:
‘It’s a deliriously, wondrously, unspeakably fabulous film’
‘Goofily gorgeous, heartfelt and endlessly rewatchable, this is the true meaning of escapism – a doorway to another world, a world created to entertain eyes, heart and brain’.
‘Yes, it’s virtually silent, it’s black-and-white, and you might not know the leads. But if you don’t take a chance on this film, we can’t be friends any more. .Simply irresistible’
The film stars the amazingly dashing Jean Dujardin, the gorgeous Bérénice Bejo and Hollywood stalwarts John Goodman and James Cromwell, and… perhaps stealing every scene is the Jack Russell Terrier Uggie.
French but made in Hollywood on the same sets as Singing in the Rain, The Artist is in black and white but definitely NOT silent with an Oscar winning and wonderful music track. It was produced by the Wiensteins who brought us the Rockbourne favourite The King’s Speech.
We urge you not to miss this guaranteed, wonderful evening out.
