Since The Imitation Game was first released the Rockbourne Village Hall committee has been swamped with requests to show this superb movie. So we are delighted to bring you this much awaited and much heralded film. Nominated for nine ‘Oscars’ including for both of the leading actors, Benedict Cumberbatch (TV’s Sherlock) and Kiera Knightley, it won for its intelligent and gripping script (by Graham Moore).
Based on the real life story of legendary crypt-analyst Alan Turing, the film portrays the nail-biting race against time by Turing and his brilliant team of code-breakers at Britain’s top-secret Government Code and Cyper School at Bletchley Park, during the darkest days of World War II. Although the team were successful and perhaps shortened the war, the story does not end happily because Turing was cruelly persecuted for being homosexual. With wonderful performances by the leading actors and by a host of other British character actors, among them Charles Dance and Mark Strong, this is an unmissable film.
